Renowned for his lyrical poeticism and outstanding virtuosity, Artur Pizarro won the Leeds International Piano Competition in 1990. Artur performs regularly throughout the world with the leading orchestras and the world’s most distinguished conductors including Esa-Pekka Salonen, Sir Andrew Davis, Charles Dutoit, Franz Welser-Most, Ilan Volkov, Tugan Sokhiev, Yakov Kreizberg, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Libor Pesek, Sir Simon Rattle & Sir Charles Mackerras.
Artur frequently appears as a recitalist and chamber musician. As a recitalist Artur has performed at many of the world’s most prestigious venues and festivals including Washington’s Kennedy Centre, The Wigmore Hall, The Aldeburgh Festival, Neues Gewandhaus, Frankfurt Alte Oper, Theatre du Chatelet, Musee D’Orsay, Zurich Tonhalle, the BBC Proms, and the NHK and Orchard Halls in Japan. Artur’s regular chamber music appearances have partnered him with Raphael Oleg, Christian Altenburger, Truls Mork, Toby Hoffmann, the St Lawrence, Muir & Petersen Quartets. In 2005 Artur founded the ‘Pizarro Trio’ with violinist Raphael Oleg and Cellist Josephine Knight performing their debut recital at London’s Wigmore Hall.
Artur Pizarro has recorded extensively for Collins Classics, Hyperion Records, Harmonia Mundi, Naxos and Linn Records. In February 2003 Artur Pizarro released a CD of Beethoven Piano Sonatas for Linn Records to outstanding critical acclaim; ‘Let no one say there is no room for another set of established masterpieces when the pianist is possessed with this sort of recreative energy and exuberance’ Gramophone - Beethoven piano sonatas Linn CKD 244
Throughout 2003-04 Artur Pizarro performed the complete cycle of Beethoven Piano Sonatas at St John’s Smith Square in London. All 8 concerts were broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s ‘PERFORMANCE ON 3’ and the cycle earned Artur a Royal Philharmonic Society Award Nomination for ‘Best Series’. In 2005 Artur released ‘REMINISCENCES’ Linn CKD248, a collection of Chopin’s best loved works for solo piano. Also in 05 Artur released Volume 1 of the complete piano works of Rodrigo for Naxos which was chosen as Editors Choice in Gramophone Magazine. The 06-07 season includes recitals at the Leipzig Gewandhaus, London’s Wigmore Hall, recitals in Denmark broadcast by Danish Radio, the complete solo works of Ravel & Debussy in London broadcast live by BBC Radio 3 and also performed Lisbon & Denmark, concerts in Seville & Madrid, concerts with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Sir Charles Mackerras, the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London and concerts with the London Philharmonic with Vladimir Jurowski. In spring ’06 Artur released a CD for Linn Records featuring Chopin’s 2nd & 3rd sonatas and the complete Lizst Hungarian Rhapsodies for Brilliant Classics. Forthcoming releases include the 2nd volume of the complete solo piano music of Rodrigo for Naxos and the complete solo works of Ravel for Linn Records and a CD of piano duo music with Vita Panomariovaite also for Linn Records. |
