| Youth Orchestra of the Americas (YOA) was founded in 2000 by New England Conservatory and Vision, Inc. and inspired by the Youth and Children Symphony Orchestra Movement in Venezuela.
Led by Artistic Advisor, Placido Domingo, and Principal Conductors Carlos Miguel Prieto and Gustavo Dudamel, YOA is a multicultural, world-class symphony orchestra of 110 gifted young musicians, ages 18-26, from twenty countries of the Western Hemisphere.
Since its Inaugural Tour in 2002, YOA has performed 75 live concerts in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela for over 100,000 people. YOA has reached over 8 million people through television & radio broadcasts, CD recordings, print media, and documentary films on the orchestra's formation, mission and performances.
Wherever it travels, YOA brings the joy of music and inspires youth and families, especially in underserved communities, through in-school workshops and free community performances. In many of the most prestigious halls of the Americas, YOA brings the highest quality of music, with the support of arts, business and government leaders, to audiences of Teatro Teresa Carreņo in Caracas, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, among many others. YOA chamber ensembles perform at the invitation of numerous distinguished presenters including the United Nations and Carnegie Hall in New York, the Organization of American States and National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, and the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University, among others. Guest conductors and soloists include Placido Domingo, Yo-Yo Ma, Leonard Slatkin, and Paquito D'Rivera.
