In 2005 Josephine made her BBC Proms concerto debut at the Royal Albert Hall where she gave the world premiere of Huw Watkins Double Concerto for viola and `cello. She has performed as a concerto soloist with many orchestras in the U.K. and abroad including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the English Chamber Orchestra, the English Sinfonia, the Bochum Symphony Orchestra and the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra`s working with distinguished conductors including Christian Zacharias, Ralf Gothoni, Roy Goodman, Alexander Titov, Yoav Talmi and Jac van Steen. Josephine has collaborated as a soloist and chamber musician with many leading international performers including Maxim Vengerov, Lisa Batiashvili, Yuzuko Horigone, Michael Tree from the legendary Guarneri Quartet, Daniel Hope and Lawrence Power.

Josephine studied at Yale University and the Juilliard School in the U.S.A. with Aldo Parisot and at the Royal Academy of Music in London where, under David Strange she won all the major `cello prizes. A recipient of numerous awards, scholarships and prizes, in 1993 Josephine was unanimously awarded First Prize in the John Tunnell Trust Competition.

Her recording of John Tavener's 'The Protecting Veil' received public and critical acclaim and reached the Top Ten in the Classical Music Charts. Last year Josephine released a C.D. featuring 18th Century Italian Cello Concertos by Leonardo Leo recorded with the English Chamber Orchestra and this year Josephine recorded for Deutsche Grammophon on a disc with Anne Sofie von Otter.

Josephine is a member of the Pizarro Piano Trio with Artur Pizarro and Raphael Oleg. Formed in 2005 the Trio has performed at prestigious venues around the world including Aldeburgh, where the Trio were Artists in Residence, the Petworth and Stavanger International Chamber Music Festivals, the Wigmore Hall and the Casa da Musica in Porto. She has appeared independently at many major international festivals throughout the world including Salzburg, Gstaad, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg and Schloselmau. Josephine has given many performances with the Oscar-winning actor Klaus Maria Brandauer ina project combining words and music instigated by Daniel Hope.

In February '08 Josephine will give the U.K. premiere of John Tavener's 'Requiem' for solo `cello, choir and orchestra which will be performed with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic under the chief conductor Vassily Pertrenko.

Josephine plays on the 1709 Markovitch Stradivarius kindly loaned to her by the Royal Academy of Music, where she is Professor of cello.
